Pre/Post Conference Suggestions

There are plenty of lovely gardens and sites to visit in and around Amsterdam. Below, we have listed a few that you might find interesting:

  • Intertidal tour (‘wadlopen’) on the mudflats and sandy banks of the Wadden Sea. We will cross the sea on foot during low tide, walking from the north coast of the Netherlands to the island of Ameland. Leaving on Saturday by car from Amsterdam at 8:30 and back at around 21:00. There are few places left, please get in touch with Reinout for more information. For impressions of ‘wadlopen’, see: http://www.wadlopen.net/
  • Hortus Bulborum is a small garden to the north of Amsterdam with a collection of historic bulb varieties. There are several picturesque sites nearby and not too many tourists: http://www.hortus-bulborum.nl/english
  • Hortus Botanicus Leiden is the oldest botanic garden in the Netherlands (1590) and the latest Dutch garden to join the IrisBG community: http://www.hortusleiden.nl/
  • Keukenhof is an attractive estate park between Amsterdam and Leiden. This is where all the commercial tulip and other bulb varieties are displayed each year. We advise you to arrive in the morning to avoid queues: http://www.keukenhof.nl/en/
  • Scheepvaartmuseum (National Maritime Museum) lies within walking distance of the Botanic Garden: https://www.hetscheepvaartmuseum.nl/
